I offer separate sessions or a blend of three modalities, (Rolfing, Somatic Experiencing, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy) that I have learned and found profoundly helpful in my own move toward health. I work to facilitate healing in what arises for the client in their body, mind and spirit in a safe, supportive environment. Trusting the bodies intelligence, it's self-healing and self-regulating forces that are within each and every being, is the lens through which I approach my work to evoke our resiliency and capacity to be fully engaged, creative, upright beings, as is our birthright. We have all experienced physical and emotional pain, to varying degrees in our lifetime, but this does not effect our true nature which remains untouched, albeit forgotten, always whole at the core of who we are. Our bodies just need help remembering this wholeness. Underneath the illusion of fragmentation is a healthy, vibrant potency that has the ability to reset us and bring us back into connection and joy.
Background
I discovered Rolfing through a movement class at Hunter College taught by Ideokinesis teacher Andre Bernard. I was in search of different modalities both conventional and alternative to resolve lower back pain that was, according to my doctor, “degenerative disc disease that would continue to weaken over time”. Andre made a big impression on me; he gave me my first movement awareness lessons and recommended Rolfing as an additional therapy. For me Rolfing was, and continues to be, profound because it was the first modality where I felt deeply contacted, that worked with my whole being in a mostly non-verbal, hands-on way. It was both educational and empowering giving me more than I had hoped for originally. Besides relieving my specific pain, my Rolfer took me on a journey through my body. I gained in length, flexibility, and balance as well as embodying a growing sense of spaciousness and integration throughout all levels of my being. It changed my structure and function- the way I move through space, how I sleep, my energy level, the clarity of my mind. I injure myself less and instead have the tools to enhance my alignment and feeling of ease and lightness.
Later on, I was led to study Somatic Experiencing and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. I experienced the release of even deeper levels of physical and emotional holding patterns that were connected to vertigo symptoms I was having from various head injuries. Like Rolfing, both S.E. and BCST are long-term certification programs that are holistically oriented. Together, these methods enhanced my functioning overall and opened me up more fully to experience the various dimensions of being human. I believe healing begins with ourselves before we can facilitate that process in others. I love sharing the beauty and intelligence of these systems..
I received my Rolfing Certification from The Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado in 2003. I became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in 2011 from The Foundation for Human Enrichment in Boulder, CO. I studied Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy at Stillpoint with Franklyn Sills of The Karuna Institute in England and became a Registered Craniosacral Therapist in 2014. I do continuing education with all three schools. I am finishing my Rolfing Movement Certification, studying mostly under Kevin Frank and Caryn McHose. Other influences include: Continuum (the work of Emilie Conrad), Integral Yoga (Level 1 trained), Pilates (IMX trained), an active meditation practice and nature.
Before starting my bodywork practice, I had a career teaching social studies through art projects at the Ethical Culture School in Manhattan. This combined my skills in woodworking with my B.A. in Anthropology from Hunter College. My work today continues to be a balance of hands, heart & mind.
